My Pitch & More

Greetings! Today focused on narrowing down the potential ideas for the Final Task into three well-thought-out pitches. When abating down options it was important to remind myself of the limited budget and casting choices I have access to. I ran through many ideas but I knew they wouldn’t be able to work given the expensive and advanced editing software required for an outcome that conceptualized the original idea accurately. Another consideration was my choice of cast. I know a few friends and my family who would happily be actors, but having a romantic love story or story about a large friend group still isn't attainable in the grand scheme of things. I’m refraining from self-film since I would have to direct my attention to another spectrum of ideas that could inhibit the final product. That’s why when considering pitches, it was important to look at all aspects including who could play the main role (given the supporting roles could be adjusted as needed) and the overall estimated cost of production. After pondering for a while I have my pitches as follows.

Pitch A: A kid finds a key, after unveiling the cryptic message a trove of secrets is revealed. Now, they must uncover them.

This pitch is something I thought would be quite interesting to consider. The pitch can be transformed into many contrasting outcomes. Given the open-to-interpret nature of the prompt, making an opening sequence wouldn’t be as difficult as a set outcome. As for logistics, everything is passable. The movie would air on the side of a mystery with potential risks. To convey this aspect I would like to film at night which could pose a difficulty since many places for amateur cinematographers are not open late. The actor would be a teen which would be easy to allocate. If the main role had to be adapted, any age category could fill in. Lastly, budget. This film would require some technical advancements in equipment and props to best portray the mystery at hand. This could get pricy.

Pitch B: A road trip of old friends turns into a life-changing experience for all; wounds are healed, and bonds are strengthened. They all experience rediscovery of some kind.

As for personal favorites, Pitch B has won me over. when it comes to movies I enjoy topics that are light-hearted, comedic, with an overlying sense of love (whether it be platonic or romantic). This film aligns with all my favorite attributes so it is worth consideration. As for drawbacks, there would have to be many locations and access to a car. I have access to a car but I have not obtained my driver's license just yet. This sets back the productions since I would have to take extra safety considerations to yield the appropriate result. Casting could be teen-aged individuals which would be easy to allocate. Another issue is there is a movie similar to this plot line in the Bollywood world named Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Refraining from copying a preexisting move is very important so going through with this pitch creates a margin for error.

Pitch C: A perfectionist meticulously makes a grappling mistake. She is left to clean up the mess.

Similar to Pitch A, this pitch is open to interpretation of the mistake that has occurred. From the lens I am viewing, I want to grapple with the side of chaos. I associate this mistake with a traumatic event that occurred. This pitch has the most potential for becoming an intriguing opening sequence but also a thrilling movie in total. However, movies with a heightened sense of crime and thrill factor are my least favorite. As for filming restrictions, any age group and various locations could work. This option so far seems the least expensive for props as well.

Final Takeaway

Alas, I have made my decision. I’ve vetoed Pitch B since a film with a similar plotline exists. This leaves me with Pitch A and Pitch C competing. Looking holistically, neither pitch particularly intrigues me. But from a comparative view, Pitch C is a better candidate. Pitch A raises risks of being out-of-budget and requires editing skills I do not have. For this reason, I have chosen to go through with Pitch C.

It is such a relief to have the final pitch ready to go! Though it’s not my top choice I am trying to be optimistic. Being optimistic leads me to being closer to being passionate about this film which will only intensify the final output.
