Production Blog - Playing with Props

Hey there! Today was a mundane day of production; the day primarily focused on preparing for filming. I wanted to prepare props and ideas for costumes. Firstly I gathered the props. This consisted of sifting through my belongings since most of these items are used in my daily life. Here are some of my findings:

As for the computer, we will be using one that is in the library. The phone will be either Janiah's or my phone depending on who’s phone we are using to film. I’m not sure if all of these props will be necessary but I want to have them handy. More specifically, I’m unsure if the use of a disposable camera/digital camera will be required. The idea behind using a camera is to show how the subjects are recording themselves by including a shot as pictured on the right.

I’ve these pictures you can see a backpack, pencils/pens, SAT prep book, various folders, a binder with extra loose leaf paper, some wired earbuds, a disposable camera and digital camera, (my parents) car keys, a couple dollars and coins, my bike, a beach bag, beach towel, sunscreen, and swim goggles. Not pictured is my or Janiah’s phone and a computer.

I hope to use a shot like this but it is all contingent based on the time frame of the music video. If the video is aired on the side below 1:10 seconds we will include the clip but if it's airing above 1:15 seconds we will not include it. Also, the wired headphones I picked out aren’t compatible with my phone so I am not sure I will use them. I would like to use headphones or wired earbuds in the scene but if Janiah nor I don't have access to them we will use AirPods. The reason behind not using AirPods at first is that AirPods are pricey which could conflict with the part of the music referring to being “broke”.

Overall, the props gathered have been pre-worn by myself which helps add to the character of the piece. It also helps that most of the props are readily available so any last-minute swaps are granted. I feel well-prepared for the filming process knowing all my props are at the ready. Despite that, before filming starts I plan on working out any kinks in props beforehand. Nonetheless, this is a great start to my work in producing.
