What Will It Be? - Final Genre Decision
The day has come! I will be making my decision for what genre I will be choosing to use in my Final Task! Drumroll, please…
Are you surprised? It was a very close race.
Before anything I want to walk you through my decision. Together we have examined Dark Comedies, Psychological Thrillers, and Crime Documentaries. All of these genres fit my pitch well and would produce great films. But, since I am a novice cinematographer with a very low budget the ideal results for these films would be impossible to yield.
Firstly, I eliminated doing a Dark Comedy since it seemed to be the hardest to navigate compositionally. It required the right amount of satire and seriousness which was already becoming daunting to balance from the initial planning stage. This decision left me with two feasible, non-constrained options to choose from.
The decision was challenging until I decided to map out an imaginary storyboard of the pitch in both genres. Quickly I realized that a Crime Documentary was the way for me. My extensive exposure to documentaries was far more vast than my exposure to thrillers (despite watching them with my friends). Additionally, I have a personal interest in Crime Documentaries over Psychological Thrillers.
Therefore, the best-suited genre for my pitch is a Crime Documentary.
I’m excited to navigate this genre and to learn more about the composition. I feel as if there is so much more to learn. Nonetheless, I am hopeful this is a good start to my Final Task!
